Training and Development
A development programme in the production plant enables staff to broaden their skills base by working on various machines and equipment. The competencies of staff, have been audited as part of a process to develop a “competency based” training programme and to develop a grading system. Increasingly, staff on the production line make collective decisions on timeframes, satisfying quality specifications, ordering production flow, etc. In this way wastage is minimized, quality enhanced and the work experience made fulfilling.
With respect to training, a greater emphasis and impetus is being given to skills training and staff development. Included among initiatives being taken here are:
- development of interns
- employment of unskilled blacks for training purposes
- engagement of staff as apprentices
- general staff development and education through ABET programmes
The company is registered with MAPPP SETA and collaborates closely with it. All training is carried out in accordance with the Skills Development Plan prepared annually for Mappp Seta.
